How to make Rasam
Rasam ( pronunciation ), chaaru, saaru or kabir is a South Indian soup, traditionally prepared using tamarind juice as a base, with the addition of tomato, chili pepper, pepper, cumin and other spices as seasonings. Steamed lentils can be added along with any preferred vegetables.
Rasam powder is another Indian spice blend and like many traditional spice blends, its history is not well documented. What is known about rasam powder is that it is used to flavor a dish called rasam, which is a South Indian soup made with lentils.
Rasam, more popularly known as charu, is an integral part of a traditional daily meal in telugu speaking homes. Rasam with rice is a comfort food that I grew up on and continues to be so even today. I am a rasam lover and prepare rasam fresh each day.
