A little-known benefit from the Interior Department gives military veterans with any disability rating from the Department of Veterans Affairs a free lifetime pass to national parks and other recreation areas, as well as discounts on some fees.
The only authorized lifetime passes are the Interagency Access Pass (free) for persons with permanent disabilities and the Interagency Senior Lifetime Pass ($80) for persons age 62 or older. These lifetime passes also grant up to 50% discounts for expanded amenities at many federal recreation sites.
Beginning in August 2021, veterans can obtain a free Military Pass online through the USGS Store. There is a $10 online processing fee. How does a Gold Star Family gain free access to a national park?
