It's always nice to share food experiences and point of views also when they are so different as in the case of Open Colonna brunch. In our opinion remarkable for a buffet are in particular eggplant parmesan (served in a small cocotte), legums soups and rabbit (porchettato). Happy to know if there are buffet offers with much better food quality.

There’s plenty of bars around town offering good aperitivo but Le Foodie, in San Giovanni, is my current go-to spot. For €10 you can take your pick from all kinds of fresh pasta, cooked veggies, meats, cheeses, and salads. Fresh plates come out of the kitchen throughout the evening so the buffet always looks full and appetizing.

The same can be said about Tommaso Coco the Chef with a Mediterranean influence. Food at Gusto has a lot of au gratins and eggs and freshly grilled stuff like steaks, swordfish, squid etc. On the downside, there is loft style décor and this is really a small place with the buffet menu placed on the bar with the spirit selection flanked above it.

What aperitivo USED to mean in Rome. The word aperitivo comes from the Latin aperire, which means "to open" as in, to open your appetite. It's like the French word we sometimes use in English, "aperitif", again, meaning a drink before dinner. Maybe 30 years ago or so, before the recent trend of "the aperitivo", Romans would drink simple things at a bar, like a plain Aperol, a Campari bitter, or

7. G BAR in Rome. G BAR is just outside the Trastevere in the far north. They have their regular drinks menu, which is reasonably priced, and then throughout the evening there are further discounts, specials and lower rates for students. This is a young crowd, always. Tucked away in Trastevere, this family-run trattoria serves exactly the food you came to Rome to eat. The appetizers are fresh, the pasta is homemade, and the house wine is crisp and inexpensive. Depending on the time of year, there may or may not be a wait at lunch time, since there are no reservations for lunch.

Cocktails in general will be more expensive than the classic aperitivo drinks listed below, though some bars will charge you “a consumazione” and charge the same price for all drinks. A good aperitivo ranges from 6 to 10 euro and can be a good meal replacement if the buffet is plentiful. A good rule of thumb for evening aperitivo is from 7-9pm.

Visiting Buffet Bars in Rome for an Italian Aperitivo is a great idea because you can eat typical Roman food for a cheaper price and meet with your friends to discuss the latest news. Particularly, aperitivo (aperitif) is an Italian version of happy hour.
One of my favorite things to get at a bar, especially in winter, is a fresh-squeezed spremuta, orange juice literally made on the spot. You can sometimes get it with Sicilian blood-oranges and it's just delicious.
